Plasma crosses the nail barrier — no medication, no systemic side effects
Before
After
Nail fungus is difficult to treat for a single structural reason: the fungus settles under the nail plate. The keratin structure of the nail forms a tight barrier; topical products cannot cross this barrier and reach the infection site. Systemic antifungal medications can be effective but require months of use and liver monitoring, and the recurrence rate after discontinuation is high.
The antifungal effect of cold plasma comes into play here. The Plasma Jet tip (50–70°C) is applied directly to the nail surface; ionized gas passes through the nail plate and reaches the fungal colony underneath, disrupting the fungal cell structure and rendering it inactive. Thinning the nail with a file or machine before application is a critical step — it facilitates plasma access to the infection site. In advanced and old cases, warm plasma is first applied with the silver needle tip for 30–35 seconds to weaken the thickened nail plate, followed by cold plasma. The method requires no medication and causes no systemic side effects.
Expectation management is important — even if the fungus is eliminated, the damaged nail does not improve; healthy nail growth takes 4–6 months for hands and 9–12 months for feet. Success is measured by the healthy growth of the new nail. Shoe and sock hygiene is important for preventing recurrence. The same method is also applied to skin fungus.
